Ok, I totally want to do this. When is everyone available (especially our guides?) This weekend is open for me, I can go Sat or Sunday. Are we going shopping on LI? Do we have to go into the city? Someone fill me in on the details, and everyone else post if they want to come and when they are available!

Ok, I said I'd be a guide, so I know I have to respond....
Saturday is excellent for me - especially cause I finally FINISHED my thesis (woo hoo!) and I'm looking to par-tay!!! Why not make it a wine-tasting/vintage shopping day on Long Island (no city shopping). This way our handsome men can join us if they are so inclined. If you boys aren't interested, then we'll just get drunk and naked (to try on clothes of course) without you!!!
Ash, you had better plan on being home by then.

Saturday is good for me. If the guys still want to do the wine tasting too, please give us a time for that, and we will plan shopping around it...

Are you CRAZY?!?
I would take vintage shopping over wine tasting any day! I think most of the other "real men" on the scene would too.
Honestly its so hit or miss out here that it may be a very disappointing day for all. In order to strike good finds one usually has to "make the rounds" every two or three weeks.
Vintage stores in NYC are totally overpriced, BUT on the weekends there is the Chelsea flea market where there is a better chance at finding cool stuff than all of the LI thrift stores combined. It's downtown around 16-18 street I think, I have some friends that definitely know and may be interested in joining us should we decide to go.
All this may be moot though as I have not figured out whether I'm going away to the reenactment or not yet.

Yea like da man said... us rednecks hates dat fru-fru winey type tastin'. Hows about wes go-a-muddin wit the truck instead. That one was for you Sarah. I would rather do just a vintage shopping trip, but we cant be late for the Gatsby.

vintage shopping isn't going to take that long. PLUS, in order to follow up every two to three weeks out here, you have to start shopping in the first place. so what if we don't find anything...at least you'll have an idea of what to look for next time, right?
I still say we do both and if Dandave and Bradwood aren't interested, we drink FIRST without them and THEN shop. (come on Mattwood - we know you want in)
What do you say Sarah?

Not quite, how will folks know what to look for if they never see it in the first place? And a good vintage shopping trip takes a long time, about an hour per store. Still think the best bet is the Chelsea flea market, I've come back with some really amazing stuff for little $$.

Kristi, that flea market is very cool. You're pretty much guaranteed to find something whether or not you end up getting it, whereas if you go to the thrift stores on Long Island, you will almost definately find nothing.
I have noooo luck with thrift stores; in my opinion, the guys do better there and it sucks for the girls. Plus, it is fun to go into the city and walk around. You might even be able to find some shops close by to just browse in for vintage clothes, even if they're too expensive to actually buy.
Brad, where was that place that we went with Chad and Midori? They had awesome stuff and it was cheap too! They had tons of cute dresses reasonably priced and you could probably get Chad and Midori to escort you all. Too bad I won't be back this weekend to go with you guys!!! Have fun.

The Chelsea street flea market has been moved. The flea market's new location is on 39th Street between Ninth and Tenth avenues. (Just in case someone goes...) When is the infamous shopping trip on sat? What part of LI are you going to? Will there be wine involved? Reds or whites?

I LOVE you Deadwood. What is it about you that I find so fascinating? Is it your charm? Wit? Deadly aim? I don't know. But you are GOD! "Your kiss is like honey and your touch scorches like fire, and I worship it." What more can I say? I've been burned by Deadwood. I am complete.

I am actually game for either plan, as Gilles and I have plans that involve being in the city Saturday night, so going earlier in the day is perfectly ok with me. Or, if we want to shop on LI, we can do that too.
I think it may be difficult to do both on one day though...I vote for shopping this Saturday and doing the wine tasting another day.
I will shop wherever m guides are willing to take me. The flea market sounds cool, but since Ash isn't here and Brad has still not committed to being around, if its just me and Sunshine we will shop around here.

It sounds like Brad is going to be away this weekend and I'd like to be able to go into the city when you guys go, so maybe you guys could do the flea market thing another weekend and just see what's around here this weekend. It really would be more fun if a whole group of us is going.
